 ACS Ventures, LLC Partners with UNLV and MYS, LLC to Evaluate Success of Nevada’s School Reform Programs

Las Vegas, NVApril 22, 2016 – The Nevada Department of Education’s Board of Examiners has approved funding for RFP 2098, Outcome Evaluation of Education Programs, and awarded the job to prime contractor, ACS Ventures, LLC with subcontractors, MYS LLC and the Center for Research, Evaluation, and Assessment (CREA) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The three organizations will collaborate to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data derived from focus group activities, student data, and existing evidence for seven programs. A preliminary report will be submitted for the Department’s review in late June with a final report scheduled for December 2016 including recommendations for whether ongoing funding should be granted for the next Fiscal Year.

Nevada-based educational programs being evaluated are:

  • Victory Schools which focuses on increasing the academic achievement of students living in the poorest zip codes in Nevada,
  • Zoom Schools that was developed to ensure that children with limited English proficiency are being provided with instruction that addressed their academic and linguistic needs,
  • Read by Grade Three which supports activities found to be effective in improving the academic achievement of students in reading,
  • Underperforming Schools Turnaround which aims to shift achievement within persistently academically-challenged schools,
  • Social Workers Grants to Schools whose purpose is to create a new Safe and Respectful Learning Office within the Nevada Department of Education,
  • Nevada Read 21 Technology which was implemented to ensure student access to skilled educators and internet-enabled wireless technology, and the
  • Great Teaching and Leading Fund which has funds appropriated to incentivize professional development and make improvements to the educator pipeline.
